J.A. Schneider Named Thompson Hine’s Atlanta Office Partner in Charge; Marla R. Butler Elevated to Executive Committee

Thompson Hine LLP is pleased to announce that J.A. Schneider, a partner in the Firm’s Business Litigation group and member of the Firm’s Office of General Counsel, has been named partner in charge of its Atlanta office. He succeeds Marla R. Butler, who is transitioning to a position on the Firm’s Executive Committee and will continue her litigation practice in the firm’s Business Litigation and Intellectual Property practices.

Schneider handles counseling and litigation in matters relating to post-employment competition and confidentiality obligations. He routinely advises clients on litigation and risks relating to covenants not to compete, nonsolicitation agreements, trade secret protection, and other post-employment obligations. Schneider also handles a variety of complex commercial litigation and counsels clients on employment and separation agreements. He advises and represents a wide range of clients, from small privately held companies to large multinational companies.

Butler is a trial lawyer and commercial litigator, representing technology companies in the medical, semiconductor, power, networking and other high-tech industries in patent litigation and in trade secret and contract disputes in courts across the country. She helps clients proactively take on commercial threats, monetize their patent assets and/or defend against lawsuits that threaten their businesses. She has developed a deep understanding of technology and is skilled at building and leading diverse teams of lawyers, scientists and economists, which enhances her ability to devise and implement successful litigation and trial strategies and to simplify complex technology concepts for judges, juries and arbitrators.

Schneider received his J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law, magna cum laude and his B.A. from McGill University. Butler received her J.D. from Florida State University, cum laude and her B.A. from Cleveland State University.
