Thompson Hine LLP is pleased to add to its international transactional tax strength with the addition of Andrea Sharetta as a partner in its Tax practice in New York. She joins from Dentons, where she was a partner for 12 years.

Sharetta focuses on a broad range of federal tax issues, including domestic and cross-border taxable and tax-free mergers, acquisitions, spin-offs, and other reorganizations and restructurings. She has extensive experience advising multinational corporations on international tax issues, including business and entity structuring, the Subpart F provisions, the foreign tax credit rules, FIRPTA, tax treaties, and the tax treatment of inbound and outbound investments and financings. She also counsels individuals on federal tax issues related to closely held businesses and real estate holdings, including advising non-U.S. individuals on pre-immigration planning and inbound investments and U.S. individuals on the federal tax implications of outbound investments and expatriations.

Sharetta received her J.D. from Notre Dame Law School, her LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law, and her B.A., <em>summa cum laude</em>, from Binghamton University. She served as an attorney-adviser to the late Judges William M. Fay and Lapsley W. Hamblen Jr. of the United States Tax Court.

Sharetta is an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Silberman College of Business where she teaches tax courses in the M.S. in Taxation degree program.
