Stransky</a> and <a href="https://www.thompsonhine.com/professionals/kim-sim-sandell/">Kim Sim Sandell</a> recently met with California State Senator Catherine Blakespear and discussed the significant increase in privacy related claims arising from the pen register and trap and trace device provisions within the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA). These CIPA claims have had a devastating impact on small businesses both within and beyond California. The discussion also focused on conflicts arising between CIPA and California’s landmark privacy laws—the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act—which were specifically designed to address website tracking technologies. The Thompson Hine Privacy &amp; Cybersecurity team is committed to collaborating with the California legislature to address these issues.
