Since first achieving Mansfield Certification in 2019, the firm has sustained its commitment to increasing the transparency and accessibility of its advancement processes and to ensuring that all professionals at the firm have a fair and equal opportunity to be considered for leadership roles and activities, a commitment that benefits the firm and its clients.

Data shows that firms that remain committed and accountable to the Mansfield Certification process year-over- year are making substantial progress in creating inclusive talent practices and diversifying their leadership ranks. This is true at Thompson Hine, and the firm continues to take measurable actions to ensure that its processes are – and remain – inclusive. For example, 50% of its Executive Committee members (the firm’s top governing body), 50% of office partners in charge, 25% of practice group leaders and 50% of Lawyer Personnel Committee members identify as attorneys from an underrepresented group.

Mansfield is a year-long structured certification process designed to ensure all qualified talent at participating law firms has a transparent, fair, and equal opportunity to be considered for advancement into leadership. The focus is on opening the door wider and ensuring that opportunities for advancement are inclusive for everyone. Mansfield is intended to expand opportunities, not limit or decrease them for anyone.

The structural elements of Diversity Lab’s certification process, including accountability through extensive data collection and frequent firm-specific check-ins, ongoing collaboration through monthly group knowledge-sharing meetings, and the transparency of public certification, are keys to this effort.

Thompson Hine’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion begins at the top. Earlier this year, White became managing partner, one of a handful of black managing partners in the Am Law 200. He follows Deborah Z. Read, who led the firm from 2012–2024 and was one of the first women managing partners.
