Shaw joins the firm after serving in the Fraud Section of the U.S. Department of Justice, which prosecutes some of the department’s most high-profile and complex financial crime and corruption matters. As one of the longest serving and most experienced prosecutors in the Section, Shaw led investigations into virtually every type of financial crime, including insider trading, securities and commodities fraud, accounting fraud, investment fraud, Ponzi schemes, health care fraud, bank fraud, mail and wire fraud, cyber fraud, tax evasion, money laundering and foreign corruption. She routinely managed these large-scale global investigations in conjunction with numerous federal law enforcement agencies, such as the FBI, U.S. Postal Service, IRS, the Treasury Department and federal inspectors general, and frequently coordinated DOJ criminal investigations in parallel with investigations by U.S. civil regulators such as the SEC and CFTC, as well as foreign civil and criminal regulators, including the United Kingdom’s Serious Fraud Office and Financial Conduct Authority, the Netherlands Public Prosecution Service, the Ontario Securities Commission and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, to name a few. In addition to her substantial work prosecuting financial crimes at the Fraud Section, Shaw was selected to serve as an Assistant Special Counsel in investigating intelligence, counterintelligence, cybersecurity and law enforcement activities directed at the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Given Shaw’s in-depth experience, she joins Thompson Hine to assist the firm’s clients navigate enforcement and regulatory challenges. Her practice focuses on representing clients in all types of government enforcement investigations, including matters involving complex financial fraud, securities fraud, market manipulation, public corruption and cross-border crimes.

“Shaw is an accomplished litigator, having worked at the Department of Justice for over a decade, and she will be a tremendous resource to our clients facing increasing enforcement actions and regulatory challenges,” said Rob Ware, Thompson Hine’s Business Litigation practice group leader. “Her firsthand experience allows her to understand the thought processes of prosecutors and agency investigators and guide them through investigations and litigation.”

Prior to joining the Fraud Section at Main Justice, Shaw was an Assistant United States Attorney in Washington, D.C., where she tried over 60 trials and led hundreds of grand jury investigations. Shaw was also a counsel for the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Ethics, where she investigated allegations of public corruption and misconduct by senators and U.S. Senate staff and advised members of the Senate and their staff on compliance with federal ethics and campaign laws.

Shaw received her B.A. from Williams College and graduated <em>magna cum laude</em> from Antonin Scalia Law School, George Mason University, where she was editor-in-chief of the law review. Following graduation from law school, she served as a law clerk to Judge Royce C. Lamberth of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
