Representation included preparing and successfully obtaining an export license from the Bureau of Industry and Security for the sale of its assets in Russia.
- Advised a prominent international automotive company on adhering to sanctions and export control laws, including ensuring compliance when client’s Chinese customers exported its products to Russia as components of finished vehicles.
- Advised a commercial real estate finance and advisory firm on the implications of U.S. sanctions in the context of buying shares in entities subject to U.S. sanctions (SDNs).
- Provided strategic advice to one of Russia’s largest oil producers on the application of U.S. sanctions regulations and enforcement practices, particularly concerning a sanctioned SDN vessel (crude oil tanker).
- Guided a technology company through the complexities of U.S. sanctions and export control regulations pertaining to smartphone exports, sales to Russia, and associated support services.
- Assisted a multinational electronics corporation with various customs-related issues, including determining the country of origin, navigating Section 301 tariffs, and classifying products. Prepared a prior disclosure to U.S. Customs and Border Protection on these matters.
- Delivered a detailed analysis for a multinational company specializing in professional video and audio equipment focusing on country of origin determinations for its video cameras.
- Advised a Canadian energy company on the trade of butane and diesel across the United States and Canada, along with issues related to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).
- Advised a leading Chinese battery and technology company on the implications and application of the CHIPS Act.
- Provided regulatory guidance to various companies on import-related issues, ensuring their products met U.S. safety and certification requirements upon importation to the United States. Representation included assisting with compliance standards enforced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for general use and children’s products.
- Supported a global premium label solutions supplier in conducting FCPA due diligence during the acquisition of other companies.
- Advised a global specialty chemicals company on compliance with regulations concerning forced labor.
- Conducted comprehensive U.S. sanctions screenings for a diverse range of clients to ensure compliance and mitigate the risks of non-compliance with U.S. sanctions.
- Advised a prominent international automotive company on whether the forthcoming regulations implementing Section 805 of the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act would prevent the client from acting as a subcontractor to Department of Defense contractors.
